Overview
What is microneedling?
What it is
Microneedling (skin needling) uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin's surface. This prompts the skin's natural repair response, which can help improve texture and the appearance of scarring and pores over a course of treatment.
Who it's for
It suits adults concerned with uneven texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores or fine lines who want gradual, natural-looking improvement.
When to consider it
Clients often consider microneedling when texture or scarring affects their confidence, or when they want to boost overall skin quality.
Why expertise matters
Needle depth, technique, hygiene and aftercare all affect outcomes and comfort. Rae has completed certified training in skin needling and assesses your skin before recommending a plan.
Before you book
Common mistakes
to avoid
Microneedling is effective when done properly and planned sensibly.
At-home devices
DIY rollers can't replicate a clinical treatment and may increase the risk of irritation or infection.
Ignoring aftercare
Skin is more sensitive after treatment. Sun protection and gentle care matter.
Expecting one session to be enough
A course is usually recommended for texture and scarring concerns.
Our process
Five considered steps
Step 1 – Get in touch
Call 07457 414718 or send the enquiry form. Tell Rae what you'd like to change, or simply that you'd like advice. You'll be offered a consultation at the Chelmsford or Maldon clinic.
Step 2 – Consultation
A thorough, unhurried conversation about your goals, lifestyle and medical history. Rae assesses your skin and features, explains the options honestly, including when a treatment isn't the right choice, and a patch test is carried out where appropriate. Where required, treatments are prescribed by an independent prescriber following a face-to-face consultation.
Step 3 – Cooling-off period
Before any treatment goes ahead, you'll have time to reflect. There's no pressure to book on the day. This is especially important for first-time clients, so every decision is a considered one.
Step 4 – Treatment
Your treatment is carried out in a calm clinical setting, following the plan agreed at consultation. Rae talks you through each stage so you know exactly what's happening.
Step 5 – Aftercare & review
Your care doesn't end when you leave the clinic. In the rare event of a complication or adverse reaction, we will look after you and any corrective treatment is provided free of charge. You'll receive clear aftercare guidance, and can contact the clinic with any questions afterwards.

In detail
Microneedling:
what to know
How microneedling is typically delivered.
Concerns it can help
Uneven texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores and fine lines are the most common reasons clients choose microneedling.
The treatment
Skin is cleansed and prepared before treatment. The depth is adjusted to the area and concern. Afterwards, skin may look pink for a short period.
Course and spacing
Sessions are spaced to allow the skin to recover between treatments. Rae recommends the number based on your skin.
Aftercare
Gentle skincare and diligent sun protection are important in the days following treatment. Full guidance is provided.
Preparing for treatment
Safety, suitability
and what to expect
Before your consultation
Make a note of any medical conditions, medicines, supplements and allergies, plus any previous aesthetic treatments and when you had them. This helps Rae review your medical history accurately and tailor, or, where needed, adjust, your plan to keep you safe. If you have an important event coming up, mention it so treatment can be timed sensibly.
Questions worth asking
What result is realistic for me? How many sessions might I need? What does aftercare involve, and who do I contact if something doesn't feel right? A good practitioner welcomes these questions. Rae will answer them openly and will tell you if a treatment isn't the right choice for you.
On the day
Arrive with a clean face where possible and allow time to go through consent and any final questions. Nothing goes ahead until you're comfortable, and first-time clients will already have had a cooling-off period since their consultation.
