Overview
What is dermal fillers?
What it is
Dermal fillers are injectable gels, typically based on hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the skin. Placed carefully beneath the skin, they can restore volume that has diminished with time, add subtle definition, and improve the balance between features.
Who it's for
Fillers suit adults who want to restore volume in areas such as the cheeks or lips, soften folds, or add definition to the chin or jawline, without surgery. They're ideal for people who want refinement rather than an obvious change.
When to consider it
Many people consider fillers when they notice their face looks flatter or more tired than it used to, when lips lose shape or fullness, or when they'd like a feature to sit in better proportion with the rest of the face.
Why expertise matters
Facial anatomy is complex. Knowing where to place filler, how much to use and, just as importantly, when to stop, is what separates a natural result from an overfilled one. Rae has completed foundation and advanced dermal filler training with BW Beauty & Aesthetics Academy and plans every treatment around facial balance.
Before you book
Common mistakes
to avoid
Most unnatural filler results come from how treatment is planned, not from filler itself.
Treating one feature in isolation
Adding volume to one area without considering the whole face can throw proportions off. Rae assesses your face as a whole before recommending anything.
Doing too much at once
A gradual approach allows the result to settle and be reviewed, reducing the risk of looking overdone.
Choosing a clinic without aftercare
Knowing you'll be looked after if something doesn't feel right matters. At New Aesthetics, any complication is treated free of charge.
Chasing trends
Trend-led shapes date quickly. Treatments that work with your natural features tend to look better for longer.
Our process
Five considered steps
Step 1 – Get in touch
Call 07457 414718 or send the enquiry form. Tell Rae what you'd like to change, or simply that you'd like advice. You'll be offered a consultation at the Chelmsford or Maldon clinic.
Step 2 – Consultation
A thorough, unhurried conversation about your goals, lifestyle and medical history. Rae assesses your skin and features, explains the options honestly, including when a treatment isn't the right choice, and a patch test is carried out where appropriate. Where required, treatments are prescribed by an independent prescriber following a face-to-face consultation.
Step 3 – Cooling-off period
Before any treatment goes ahead, you'll have time to reflect. There's no pressure to book on the day. This is especially important for first-time clients, so every decision is a considered one.
Step 4 – Treatment
Your treatment is carried out in a calm clinical setting, following the plan agreed at consultation. Rae talks you through each stage so you know exactly what's happening.
Step 5 – Aftercare & review
Your care doesn't end when you leave the clinic. In the rare event of a complication or adverse reaction, we will look after you and any corrective treatment is provided free of charge. You'll receive clear aftercare guidance, and can contact the clinic with any questions afterwards.

In detail
Dermal Fillers:
what to know
How dermal fillers are used and what varies between treatments.
Lips
Lip filler can add hydration, subtle shape or gentle volume. Rae's focus is on proportion, the balance between upper and lower lip and the rest of the face, so lips look soft and natural rather than overfilled.
Cheeks and mid-face
Volume in the mid-face naturally reduces over time, which can make the face look flatter or more tired. Carefully placed filler can restore some of that support.
Chin and jawline
Filler can add definition and improve balance in profile. Suitability depends on your facial structure and is assessed at consultation.
Different fillers, different jobs
Fillers vary in thickness and flexibility. Softer products suit delicate, mobile areas such as the lips; firmer products provide structure. Rae selects the product to match the area and the result you want.
How long results last
Filler is gradually broken down by the body over time. How long it lasts depends on the product, the area treated and the individual. Results vary from person to person.
Preparing for treatment
Safety, suitability
and what to expect
Before your consultation
Make a note of any medical conditions, medicines, supplements and allergies, plus any previous aesthetic treatments and when you had them. This helps Rae review your medical history accurately and tailor, or, where needed, adjust, your plan to keep you safe. If you have an important event coming up, mention it so treatment can be timed sensibly.
Questions worth asking
What result is realistic for me? How many sessions might I need? What does aftercare involve, and who do I contact if something doesn't feel right? A good practitioner welcomes these questions. Rae will answer them openly and will tell you if a treatment isn't the right choice for you.
On the day
Arrive with a clean face where possible and allow time to go through consent and any final questions. Nothing goes ahead until you're comfortable, and first-time clients will already have had a cooling-off period since their consultation.
